South-Westland, Sandflies, and Rain
Spent the better part of the second week of January sleeping in a tent in Haast deep in spectacular South-Westland, in the South Island of New Zealand. The weather threatened the entire time, and we were under constant aerial attack from the local Sandflies! Fortunately the only real weather problems we had was the evening before we were due to leave. A good steady rain kicked in just as we were having dinner, and persisted right through to the following afternoon. Can you imagine putting a wet tent away? Seriously not recommended unless one is desperate. We were! All in all though I’m happy with what photos I did get as it was primarily a family trip. Had some people related to my next assignment to meet up with the day after we got home, with the assignment itself, the following day, so I had to leave my wife and kids to put the tent up to dry out! That other assignment is a whole other story, so I’ll have to leave that one out this time round if you don’t mind! Some sample photos of our trip to Haast have made it to our Facebook page at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?vanity=KORUScenicTours&set=a.1991262857557446
